Card Readers
Two types of readers on campus - swipe and proximity:
1. Swipe readers read the black strip on the back of the ID cards.
2. Proximity readers read the chip via radio waves.
Proximity card readers look like the following images:

Place the card against the face of the reader for 1-2 seconds for it to be read. Old cards can be returned to the Security & Traffic Reception for recycling.
ID cards have a radio antennae built into them, please do not put holes in the cards as they will not work and you will be charged to replace them.
Security Systems Maintenance
For any faulty hardware (including CCTV) or repetitive alarms, please email Access Control with 'Service' in the subject field and as much detail as possible (such as location and frequency of fault). A security technician shall investigate reported faults within 24 hours of receipt of notification.
Faults can be reported via your Building supervisor, Asset Services (x46000) or email access-control@unimelb.edu.au and in the subject field put 'Service'.
